Impact
In the REPEAT Lab, we always attempt to consider the real world impact of our research and how it will ultimately improve the theoretical models and treatment. We take a bench-to-bedside approach wherein our mechanistic and neuroscience-informed research is used to directly inform our treatment research (and vice versa). We are interested in examining how socio-environmental and cultural factors influence mechanisms and treatment of these disorders. Further, our lab is dedicated to fostering research on groups historically excluded or underrepresented in neuroscience and clinical psychology.
-
Curiosity
As an interdisciplinary lab, we are focused on understanding complex, persistent disorders that threaten people’s quality of lives. We recognize that multiple viewpoints are necessary to solve such challenging issues. For this reason, we approach research with a sense of curiosity. Our lab members are eager to jump into new areas of learning outside of our primary focus and learn from people from different disciplines. With a sense of humility, we welcome data that supports our hypothesis and also enthusiastically learn from situations in which our research has unexpected outcomes.
-
Respect
Our lab is deeply committed to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. We welcome lab members and collaborators from all different disciplines and viewpoints. In order for science to progress, it is imperative to incorporate diverse perspectives and we must respect differing research questions and ideas. Our goal is to not only do high quality research, but also to create an positive and inclusive scientific environment for all.

Challenge
Severe and persistent mental health concerns involve a level of complexity that demands sophisticated solutions. As such, our lab is committed to taking a multi-method approach that spans biological methodologies, advanced statistical approaches, real-world assessments, and treatment development methods. Given the range and complexity of our methods, REPEAT Lab members are expected to be willing to throw themselves into the “deep end” to learn advanced approaches for studying these research questions. As a lab, we aim to advance the sophistication of our research and for each member to extend their intellectual reach.
